Assistant Fossil Preparator

Elevation Science Institute is pleased to announce a full-time Assistant Fossil Preparator position in the publicly viewable Paleo Prep Lab at Cincinnati Museum Center located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
As our Assistant Fossil Preparator, you will be instrumental in helping the research arm of our program while taking part in our goal to share paleontology and natural history with thousands of individuals throughout the Cincinnati tri-state area and the world. The primary responsibility of the Assistant Fossil Preparator is preparing fossils collected by Elevation Science Institute field teams. This includes, but is not limited to, opening fossil jackets, using appropriate manual and mechanical tools, the proper use of adhesives, and the construction of appropriate archival housing to fully prepare the specimens for long-term collections storage. Additional duties will include assisting in the supervision and training of volunteers, as well as educational and outreach programming. The Assistant Fossil Preparator must be able to communicate the Elevation Science Institute’s mission, vision, and values throughout every aspect of their duties.
Extensive previous experience with fossil preparation is required. This position is intended for candidates who have had previous fossil preparation training, and the new Assistant Fossil Preparator is expected to be able to work successfully with a range of techniques and on a variety of fossil specimens on the first day of employment.
This is a grant-funded position that is currently funded for two years. Additional funding will be pursued to support the position beyond the initial funding period.
